Across Globe, Empty Bellies Bring Rising Anger – NYTimes.com

There is no excuse for hunger on earth!  Why isn’t more being done… Oh yeah of course it’s simple – GREED.  It’s the “I got mine, go screw yourself” syndrome.  Bucky Fuller said decades ago the problem is distribution.  I say it’s time to distribute, let’s re-distribute just a little more of the wealth.  Guess that makes me a socialist too.  The Haitian earthquake is a huge manifestation of the deeper catastrophe of poverty.  If it was not for such abject poverty the death & destruction toll would be much lower.  Haiti was invisible a week ago.  Haiti had no cushion, no reserves.  It’s like the old man who finally catches a cold which kills him.  Answers?  Don’t know.  Travis Bickel said “someday a rain will come & wash all this away”. So enough blah blah blah, time to act.  Send a check right away!  Then keep doing more!

Across Globe, Empty Bellies Bring Rising Anger – NYTimes.com

This article was printed back in April 2008, it’s a must read!

Excerpt: “Hunger bashed in the front gate of Haiti’s presidential palace. Hunger poured onto the streets, burning tires and taking on soldiers and the police. Hunger sent the country’s prime minister packing.”

“Haiti’s hunger, that burn in the belly that so many here feel, has become fiercer than ever in recent days as global food prices spiral out of reach, spiking as much as 45 percent since the end of 2006 and turning Haitian staples like beans, corn and rice into closely guarded treasures.”
